Dry Sandford pits

Dry Sandford Pits is one of my favourite nature reserves on my local patch.
After a walk through woodland it opens up to a large disused sandpit area that looks like dinosaurs could still roam around.
Many dragonflies zip through the air and the water seems alive with bugs.
We once saw Great crested newts here.

Common Darter

A large patch of water lillies covers one side of the pond, while the steep sandy banks are covered with rabbit holes and you can see the layers of sand and limestone that show where this area was once sea.
Apparantly the cliffs contain coral and fossils, but I haven't seen any.

Moorhen

Not sure what bird this is.
