I think we put the camera too high for them to set it off.
Alex, aged 12. This is my diary of the wildlife where I live in Oxfordshire, and sometimes the places I visit. My passion is for British wildlife, especially badgers, hares and Kingfishers. I have now stopped blogging on this account but I will leave it running. Look at my new blog at www.appletonwildlifediary.wordpress.com Here are some of my favourite photos that I have taken.

Badgers last night
We put the camera down around 7.30pm but nothing was filmed until after 10pm.
I think we put the camera too high for them to set it off.

Bug mansion
We are building a bug mansion in our back garden.
It is based on one we saw on the wild about gardens website.
http://www.wildaboutgardens.org.uk/thingstodo/inaweekend/bug-mansion.aspx
It is made out of pallets and bits and pieces.
This is ours so far.
We have put in lots of things that create holes, little spaces and areas for insects to go in.
We just need a few more pallets to make it higher

Pigeons vs Red kite
In the field next to our we came across two Red Kites chasing a flock of Pigeons
The Red Kites dived down at the pigeons to make them leave the ground.
They chased the pigeons around and around.

One of of the Red Kites finally caught a pigeon.
Unfortunately it landed too far away from us to make a good photo.
Last nights river walk
Last night we went for a dog walk down by the river as it was getting dark.
We went looking for otters, Kingfishers or Watervoles.
We took a photo of some poo we found on the river bank, but we think it is mink poo.
We spoke to a fishman who said he used to see the otters a lot two years ago, but hasn't seen any for a while. He thinks they may have moved upriver away from the camping.
It was very spooky when the mist covered the fields

There were two herons in the field as the mist appeared. By this time it was getting quite dark.

Pigeons have gone.......
But not very far.
Yesterday morning we noticed that the baby pigeons had moved out of the nest and up onto a branch.
An hour later one pigeon had gone and by yesterday evening both pigeons had left the tree completely.
We think they left the nest earlier than we expected because on Sunday there were two magpies annoying them
They hadn't gone far, one went to the bottom of the the garden
